Banking in France

To own a property in France, it is essential to operate a French bank account.

A French bank card is essential, as even though the UK is going over to “Chip and PIN”, many UK cards simply wont work on automatic fuel pumps, peages (motorway toll booths) etc.
Banking procedures in France are different – especially the cheque clearing system and payment by “RIB” – a common form of transfer. Most French banks can provide information in English.
Setting up an account is fairly straightforward and we can advise you on choosing suitable banks.
Don't forget that French banks close on Mondays and there are many more bank holidays here than in the UK.
